The people who know me well, know that I’ve watched all six seasons of Sex and the City too many times. Throughout high school, as a way of compensating for my nonexistent love life and emotionally unstable personality, I lived vicariously through Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte. At times, I felt like I was part of the lives of the four gal pals, and I learned more about sex by watching the show than the bullshit that was taught to me in grade nine health class.
But one famous line that Charlotte York said has always stayed with me.
MAYBE OUR GIRLFRIENDS ARE OUR SOULMATES AND GUYS ARE JUST PEOPLE TO HAVE FUN WITH?
Could Charlotte be right?
When I decided to start this blog, I texted my three best friends and summoned them to the closest coffee shop. We’ve all had a tight bond since the fifth grade, which at times was questionable, but in any case we’ve managed to remain best friends. There are no other people that I would rather talk about menstruation, body hair, or talk shit other people with. I find it hard to believe that a man would ever appreciate talking about these topics as much as my girlfriends do, but what do I know.
I would compare my first 18 years of life to a bar of Toblerone. It’s been sweet, but rocky at times, mainly due to my own insecurities and issues. I’ve yet to find a male soulmate, so at this point in my existence, I would consider my girlfriends my soulmates. Charlotte had the same thought but in her 30s, which leads me to believe that our favourite friends do remain our soulmates. I would recommend checking back with me in 20 years for a final answer.
